POLICY
Editorial & Sourcing Policy
This page explains how issue.place documents events and issues, verifies sources, and updates its records.
Editorial Principles
issue.place does not aim to reproduce news articles or other external content as-is.
We review publicly available materials and sources, then organize significant facts and developments into original summaries and chronological timelines.
Each Issue connects Events that help explain how a situation has developed over time. Records may be updated when new facts or meaningful developments become available.
When newly published materials merely repeat information already documented, we may update an existing record rather than create a new Event.
Sources and Verification
issue.place provides links to original or supporting sources whenever reasonably possible so that readers can review the basis for significant factual statements.
Depending on the subject, we may prioritize sources such as:
- official statements from governments and public institutions
- laws, regulations, and official documents
- materials published by international organizations
- official materials from parties or organizations directly involved
- reporting from established news agencies and media organizations
- specialized sources relevant to the subject
For significant facts or matters involving conflicting claims, we aim to review multiple sources whenever reasonably possible.
When sources conflict or facts remain uncertain, we avoid presenting a single disputed claim as an established fact.
Distinguishing Facts, Claims, and Opinions
issue.place aims to distinguish verified facts from claims, interpretations, and opinions made by individuals or organizations.
For example:
- Verified fact
- The government submitted the bill to the National Assembly.
- Claim by a party
- The government said the measure would help stabilize the market.
We do not present the assessment or claim of a particular party as issue.place's own conclusion.
When facts remain developing or uncertain, records may be updated as additional information becomes available.
Quotations
Direct quotations are used selectively when they are useful for understanding an event.
When we use a direct quotation, we distinguish it from our own text and provide the original source whenever reasonably possible.
We do not use long reproductions of external articles or documents as a substitute for our own summaries.
Photos and Videos
issue.place may connect photos and videos to Events when they help readers understand what happened.
When selecting media, we generally prioritize:
- materials whose usage rights or terms can be identified
- materials provided by official institutions or original creators
- official embed methods provided by external platforms
- materials for which the original source can be identified
For content hosted by services such as YouTube, we generally prefer the official embed functionality provided by the platform.
Copyright and other rights in external materials may belong to their respective rights holders.
Corrections and Rights-Related Requests
issue.place aims to maintain accurate records, but new facts may emerge and previously published information may need to be corrected or updated.
We accept requests concerning matters such as:
- factual errors
- correction requests
- additional source suggestions
- copyright concerns
- image, likeness, or privacy concerns
- other potential rights-related issues
Requests may be submitted through the issue.place Contact page.
We review the information and supporting materials provided and consider appropriate corrections or other actions where necessary.
